Until It Works

August 27, 2019

I’m reading a book right now called “Tiny Habits” by BJ Fogg and this quote really struck me.

“Narrative drama comes from bold action, not from the incremental progress that leads to sustainable success.”

No one wants to admit that the person in the movie didn’t actually achieve things realistically. We all want to believe that it IS possible to just go cold turkey, transform overnight, watch as the fog of life miraculously clears and what we are left with are our dreams, vividly in front of us.

The more interesting, but less dramatic, reality is this:

the small, tiny things you commit to each day, that’s what leads to sustainable progress.

Knowing that the real drama is in incremental, slow, seemingly negligible work doesn’t make for as fun of a story.

Until it works.
